Our mission is to drive smarter, greener, and more cost-effective manufacturing to support pharmaceutical and biotech research and commercialization. We recently announced the acquisition of research laboratories and a small molecule API pilot plant at Discovery Park, Sandwich, UK, establishing our first manufacturing facility in Europe and expanding our capabilities to meet the needs of global clients. The Sandwich facility will act as the flagship site for European R&D and we are looking to recruit into key roles. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative, collaborative, dynamic team of scientists and help shape our operations and the future of our organisation.

What we offer

We offer competitive compensation, a flexible benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, opportunities to buy or sell holidays, as well as a good work-life balance. Enjoy a fun and rewarding career with daily opportunities to collaborate with highly talented scientists. Additionally, there will be myriad opportunities to learn new technical and interpersonal skills, develop existing strengths, coach and mentor others, while pursuing our company's mission.

Position summary

Working within our state-of-the-art laboratories at Sandwich, your role will be to design and develop new routes to starting materials, intermediates and APIs (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients) through considered, data-driven experimental execution in the laboratory. Within a collaborative team environment, you will create safe, robust, scalable and efficient chemical processes to manufacture pharmaceutical API’s. You will also have the opportunity to transfer these chemical processes to scale up facilities and ultimately manufacturing. In addition, you may be involved in designing and executing High Throughput Experimentation to support all aspects of process development.

Asymchem will invest in your development so that you can

  • Develop robust processes which ensure safe, reproducible and scalable manufacturing in large scale GMP equipment.
  • Employ a range of laboratory equipment from mg to multigram scale, in conjunction with a suite of analytical tools, to maximise the generation of knowledge from each experiment.
  • Contribute directly in technology transfer activities to the Sandwich plant facility and other sites within the Asymchem network.
  • Collaborate with scientists within and outside their functional area to achieve team goals.
  • Utilise a systematic methodical approach to solve complex chemistry problems and identify the root cause of any processing issues.
  • Perform laboratory operations with a critical focus on safety ensuring process safety guidelines are followed when conducting scale-up experiments.
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for improved work processes to deliver increased productivity, safety and quality.
  • Take responsibility for the technical delivery of work packages through team leadership.
  • Utilise the experience of the group to support continued professional development in a range of technical areas to develop a high level of expertise supplemented with transferrable soft skills.

Qualification, skills and experience

  • A PhD in chemistry with excellent knowledge of organic chemistry is highly desirable or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with significant experience in the pharmaceutical or a related industry is essential.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written forms is essential.
  • A collaborative approach to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Proactive planning and organizational skills and the ability of multi-tasking and prioritizing in a highly dynamic environment is essential.
