The role

As we enter a new phase of rapid global growth, we are seeking aLaboratory Coordinator to ensure the efficient running of our sequencing laboratory operations and drive continuous improvement in our processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track lab capacity and workflow patterns to effectively organise and manage work rotas.
  • Own and track KPIs for areas of responsibility, escalating deviations/issues as appropriate.
  • Oversee training of staff, including quality review and proficiency testing.
  • Coordinate the delivery of DNA sequencing projects, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality results.
  • Manage consumable usage for areas of responsibility, ensuring sufficient stock in laboratories by working with the Operations and Lab Management Teams.
  • Promote safe working in the laboratory, ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations and safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Ensure SOPs and Work Instructions are followed at all times.
  • Manage and escalate major and critical compliance issues within quality processes.
  • Create and review technical and quality documents (SOPs, work instructions, risk assessments, licensing, etc.).
  • Provide communication and support to other senior staff.
  • Support implementation and development of LIMS, particularly within the area of responsibility.
  • Engage with and support other parts of the business to improve sample and data quality, capacity, and turnaround times (e.g. Delivery Development, Bioinformatics, R&D, Products).
  • Line manage Product Delivery Scientists.
  • Carry out routine analysis of client samples following established protocols, including DNA extraction from environmental samples (e.g. soil, water, bulk tissues), QC testing, PCR/qPCR, and High-Throughput Sequencing.

About you

We are looking for an experienced and proactive laboratory professional with a passion for delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced, science-driven environment.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Biological/Molecular Sciences or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience working with Sequencing technologies in a commercial or other high-throughput environment.
  • Significant experience with Illumina sequencing technology
  • Previous experience in a management roleis desirable.
  • Experience working with LIMS is advantageous but not essential.
Specialist Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving blockers
