Our Tesco Colleague rate of pay starts from £12.45 an hour; this increases to £13.66 for stores within the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.

It’s our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12), we have opportunities for this too and would love to hear from you.

The table shows the periods of time in the week we’d like you to be available to work – the availability windows. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you’ll have 3 weeks’ notice of your shifts. We support flexibility, so if your available times match closely but not exactly, we’d still love to hear from you. Read more.

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. This role involves variety and daily challenges, making it exciting. As a store colleague, you will help serve our shoppers better every day, meet great people, learn new skills, and be part of a diverse team.

  • Being knowledgeable about the store’s products and services
  • Applying your training to work safely and effectively
  • Making customer-focused decisions and delivering routines that meet customer needs
  • Participating in seasonal, community, and charity events
  • Understanding store performance and contributing to sales, waste reduction, and profit
  • Handling products with care to maintain quality
  • Living our values, making everyone feel welcome, and following policies
  • Accepting deliveries into the store when required

You will need:

  • A passion for delivering excellent service with a smile
  • Ability to build rapport with customers
  • Initiative and decision-making skills for customer benefit
  • Teamwork and open communication
  • Reliability, punctuality, presentable appearance, and being a brand ambassador

  • Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus a personal day, rising to 22 days after 12 months (plus Bank holidays)
  • Flexible working requests from day one
  • 10% discount, 15% during pay weekends, and a Colleague Clubcard to save up to £2,000 annually
  • Access to wellbeing services, life cover, pension, and other benefits
  • Uniform provided and policies supporting all of life’s moments
  • Access to colleague networks for support and community
