About The Role

The Telegraph is looking for a senior designer. Be part of the design team where experimentation and learning are encouraged. The award-winning Visual Storytelling team is an in-house creative team within The Telegraph working across digital, print, and motion. We work directly with editorial stakeholders and a newsroom of over 500 journalists.

The department's aim is to present award-winning journalism in a way that is accessible and engaging to a wide audience. Pushing the creative output daily, challenging the status quo whilst staying true to The Telegraph brand. All our work is made daily, with occasional weekly briefs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Creating visual stories, in an innovative and highly creative manner
  2. Working to fast-paced deadlines on edition-based products
  3. Collaborating with Infographic Designers, Video Editors, Editors, Developers, and Journalists to brainstorm and storyboard short stories for the day's topics
  4. Working closely with other designers to bring stories to life, in a short, snappy, highly visual format
  5. Working with the Art Director, to develop a leading industry approach across all formats
  6. Good communication across departments is key
  7. Provide guidance to junior members of the team

Key Skills

  1. An outstanding portfolio of projects
  2. A strong graphic design/illustration aesthetic
  3. Proficiency in the full Adobe suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign plus Figma)
  4. Open-minded and receptive approach to innovating and iterating designs
  5. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working as part of a team
  6. Interest in current affairs and a passion for telling stories
  7. Energetic with an appetite for experimentation
  8. A keen eye on current design trends
  9. An understanding of motion graphics
