SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
Our Client, an Aberdeen-based Operator, is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join their team. This is an initial full-time 12-month PAYE contract role.
Scope/Overall Purpose of Job
The role requires experience in enterprise-scale network environments, with a strong hands-on background in Cisco routing and switching. The candidate will design, implement, and manage complex on-premises and public cloud network infrastructure to support the client's onshore and offshore operations.
Understanding the risks and rewards of failing fast and implementing fit-for-purpose or 'minimum viable product' solutions where appropriate is crucial, while maintaining security, integrity, and availability.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Design and deploy scalable and secure network solutions supporting the client's operations onshore and offshore.
- Configure and maintain Cisco routing and switching infrastructure for high availability, resilience, and performance.
- Configure and maintain Meraki wireless networks for seamless connectivity.
- Implement and maintain Palo Alto Firewalls and Global Protect VPN to ensure security and threat prevention.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network issues with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Maintain up-to-date network diagrams and documentation, adhering to security and industry standards.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, service improvement, and efficiency.
Key Experience Required
- Proven experience in similar roles, with exposure to the upstream Oil and Gas industry beneficial.
- Experience with WAN technologies and routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.
- Knowledge of VRF and VLAN configurations.
- Experience in network administration and engineering in medium to large enterprise environments.
- Proficiency with Cisco ISR and ASR Routers (2900/4000/1000ASR).
- Experience with Cisco Switching (3850/3650/2960X/4500X/6880/9K) and technologies like VTP, STP, VSS.
- Familiarity with Cisco Meraki and wireless technologies, including controller-based solutions.
- Knowledge of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), TACACS, and 802.1X.
- Advanced experience with Palo Alto Firewalls, including policy configuration, VPNs, and Global Protect.
- Experience with Riverbed WAN acceleration products.
- Proficiency with SolarWinds Monitoring, NetFlow, Syslog, and SIEM logging.
- Understanding of QoS, Cisco CUCM, Call Manager, CUBE routers, SIP, and Teams Telephony.
- Exposure to Azure Networking, including vNets, Peering, Routing, NSGs, ExpressRoute, and overlay networks.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field; significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
- 3-5 years of experience in a technically responsible position.
- Excellent prioritization skills and ability to handle complex, demanding environments.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional Routing and Switching (CCNP R&S) or equivalent.
- PCNSE or advanced Palo Alto Firewalls experience.
- ITIL v4 Foundation Certification preferred.
