Job description

EAL TA/HLTA - Secondary School in Merton (Part-Time)

We are currently working in close partnership with a large, high-performing mixed secondary school in the London Borough of Merton. Graded Outstanding by Ofsted, the school is known for its inclusive ethos and innovative approach to supporting students of all backgrounds and abilities.

The school is seeking to appoint a confident and experienced EAL Teaching Assistant or HLTA to support their dedicated Smart Provision, which focuses on students with English as an Additional Language (EAL). This is a part-time role (2-3 days per week) running until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of extending into September pending further recruitment.

The Role:

  • Supporting EAL students, particularly those with a low level of English proficiency.
  • Assisting with Functional Skills and ESOL classes, as well as supporting students with home languages.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and the Smart Provision team to tailor support for individual learner needs.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A qualified TA or HLTA with experience supporting EAL learners in a secondary setting.
  • Confident delivering or supporting in ESOL and Functional Skills lessons.
  • Culturally sensitive, patient, and proactive in adapting strategies to meet student needs.
  • Available for an immediate start and open to completing a trial day or morning as part of the selection process.
