Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Newcastle and Moorlands Children's Disability Service, at a time where there is significant investment across Children's Social Care.

We have four Children's Disability teams across the county, providing specialist services for children and young people with complex disabilities. These teams of highly dedicated Social Workers support each other daily to ensure the best outcomes for our disabled children in a timely manner, enabling them to live their lives to the full.

We are committed to working with partners and families to support children and young people to be safe, secure, and to promote their physical and emotional well-being, helping them achieve their full potential within their communities.

Our team is supported by skilled Family Practitioners who assist with behaviour management and direct work with children with disabilities and their families.

Based at Castle House in Newcastle Under Lyme, covering Newcastle and the Moorlands. Hybrid working is supported, combining remote work and office presence.

This is a Fixed Term role for 12 months.

Main Responsibilities

As a qualified Social Worker, you will:

  • Be part of a team of 7 Social Workers and 1 Family Practitioner.
  • Perform statutory duties under the Children Act 1989, including working with children under S17/S47, supporting children in our care, and completing holistic assessments and plans for disabled children. The team manages a small number of children on Child Protection Plans and in Care.
  • Ensure the children on your caseload receive high-quality services.

Our Children's Disability Team offers opportunities to develop skills in areas such as Mental Capacity Assessments, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and transition planning for adulthood.

Work may involve collaboration with the Assessment, Staying Together, and Early Help Teams, often co-working on sibling groups.

Practice development is a priority, and you will contribute to reflective team supervision and your professional growth.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • BA/MA in Social Work, registered with Social Work England.
  • Post-qualifying experience working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with disabled children, families, and professionals.

We are open to discussing flexible working options.
