About the role

Balfour Beatty is currently recruiting a Senior Structural CAD Technician to join the Power T&D team in Derby.

Role focus: To work with the structural design team to interpret design information effectively, producing assembly/fabrication drawings and bills of quantities for structural steelwork.

What you'll be doing

1. Use CAD software to produce 2D & 3D models of structural steelwork.
2. Provide technical support to project stakeholders, e.g., site operatives, commercial team, fabricators.
3. Ensure compliance with the Group Minimum Engineering Expectations.
4. Highlight good/bad practices to promote continuous improvement.
5. Manage your tasks to meet program and budget requirements.
6. Produce engineering estimates for medium-sized projects.
7. Oversee medium projects with up to four CAD technicians, managing resources and delivering tasks on time and within budget.
8. Mentor and train CAD technicians.
9. Check the work of other CAD technicians.
10. Ensure all work complies with client and industry specifications.

Who we're looking for

• Excellent literacy and numeracy skills, GCSE level 6 minimum.
• Competent in developing 3D models, producing general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials for structural steelwork.
• Good communication skills.
• Strong analytical thinking skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel.
