Job description

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for specialists with nuclear safety engineering experience or those interested in training in this field to help power submarines today and develop solutions for the future. Our team consists of over 100 employees in nuclear safety roles, with plans to double this number over the next 4-5 years as we expand into novel nuclear applications such as space and micro reactors, nuclear propulsion for the Australian Navy, and collaborations with the MoD on nuclear defense solutions.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands globally, leading innovation for over a century. We design, build, and service systems that deliver critical power with safety and reliability as priorities. We are a leader in nuclear propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's submarine fleet and serve as the sole provider and technical authority.

Opportunities and Benefits

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits, including pension, bonus, employee support assistance, and discounts. Join us in an inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in your growth, continuous learning, and provides a broad range of career opportunities.

Who We Are Looking For

At Rolls-Royce, we value agility, boldness, collaboration, and simplicity. We seek safety engineers at various experience levels, from recent graduates eager to develop to seasoned specialists ready for leadership roles. Key capabilities include:

  • Probabilistic Safety Assessment
  • Nuclear Safety Case
  • Human Factors
  • Safety & Reliability
  • Safety Coherency
  • Containment and Consequence Criticality

Experience in one or more of these disciplines is preferred but not limited to submarine applications. Candidates from industries such as civil nuclear, oil & gas, chemical processing, or rail are also encouraged to apply.

Qualifications and Diversity

A degree in engineering or a scientific discipline is preferable. We are committed to equal opportunities, developing a diverse workforce, and fostering an inclusive environment. We believe diverse perspectives drive innovation and success.

Additional Requirements

To work with the Rolls-Royce Submarines business, candidates must hold a UK Security Check clearance; we support the application process if needed. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, applications are only accepted from individuals who are UK nationals or, in MoD-approved cases, dual nationals.
