Consultant Psychiatrist - Canterbury and Coastal Community

This post offers the opportunity to demonstrate clinical expertise across various areas. It is a well-supported role within a cohesive team of nurses, OTs, psychologists, assistant psychologists, and mental health wellbeing practitioners. There are opportunities for teaching, management, and quality improvement (QI).

Staff are currently being trained in Open Dialogue, a new approach that has brought a refreshing perspective to the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). This method is expected to enhance wellbeing for both staff and patients.

Kent is a large county with a rich rural history and many historical sites, with close links to London. It provides an ideal setting for personal and professional development.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide medical input to patients under the care of the Community Mental Health Team, attend CPAs for enhanced patients, and offer urgent assessments and advice.
  2. Lead screening of new referrals to the team on a rotational basis among consultants.
  3. Participate actively in service evaluation and planning of future service developments.
  4. Empower the team to resolve local issues daily using quality improvement tools and methods.
  5. Manage, appraise, and supervise junior medical staff in accordance with trust policies, including assessing competencies under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
  6. Engage in service and business planning activities for the locality and the broader mental health service.
  7. Join the consultant on-call rota (currently 1:30, non-residential), with remuneration including a 3% category A supplement and 0.5 PA in addition to 10 PA sessions.
