Job description

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Role:

Apply to be a Volunteer Police Cadet with Northumbria Police now!

Joining the cadets is about way more than aspiring to be a future police officer. Every year we welcome people from any background - whether they have an interest in the police or not.

This is a great opportunity to try new experiences, explore new places, meet new people and develop some fantastic skills! Our groups meet once a week during school term time for 3 years and are led by officers, staff, and volunteers across Northumbria Police. Joining the cadets will give you a chance to speak for and support your local community, learn new life skills and, most importantly, have fun!

As a police cadet you'll be part of something completely different. Here are some of the great things you'll get involved in:

  • Visit areas of police work like Forensics, and our Dogs and Horses Section.
  • Conduct night shift patrols.
  • Take part in crime prevention initiatives.
  • Help police community events (e.g. Northumberland County Fairs, Newcastle Pride).
  • Work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

It's not all about the police - you'll get involved in local programmes such as visiting schools and care homes, join in with sports sessions, and even learn first aid. And it's also a bonus that all of this looks great on your CV!

After completing your 10-week induction training, you'll attend a special Attestation evening where you will take the Cadet Oath in front of your family and friends.

Don't worry if you've never been part of a club or group before or if you've previously been in trouble with the police - this is a great opportunity to find out exactly what you are capable of and be part of a great team.

If you're not quite sure if it's for you or have any questions, we'd be happy to chat - just get in touch at Citizensinpolicing@northumbria.police.uk.

You'll need to live in the Northumbria Police Area (you can find out more on this link www.police.uk). We have places available within our cadet units in Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside.

You must also either be 13 or 14 on or before the 31st August 2025, turning 14 or 15 in the academic year that falls between 1st September 2025 - 31st August 2026 (going into Year 9 or 10). Once you have applied you'll get an update on next steps in May. Cadet sessions are aligned to the academic year, and will run from September to July each year.
