Job description

Business Analyst, SC, NPPV3

We are currently looking for a Technical BA to join a leading central government organisation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Elicit, analyse, and document business and technical requirements for data warehousing and secure data access.
  • Collaborate with the technical lead, data engineers and data scientists to design and validate data pipelines, data models, and governance strategies.
  • Translate business needs into clear, testable technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with business users to elicit key process flows and translate to functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Support the design and implementation of secure data architectures, including access controls and compliance frameworks.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including data flow diagrams, system interaction maps, and process documentation.
  • Create and maintain business documentation, including user journeys, process flows, mind maps, swim lane and work flow diagrams.
  • Facilitate workshops and stakeholder interviews to gather requirements and validate technical solutions.
  • Support service transition activities, including knowledge transfer, operational readiness, and documentation handover to ensure smooth transition into live service/BAU teams.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) and support QA processes to ensure solutions meet business and compliance needs.
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies and support iterative delivery through backlog refinement, sprint planning, show and tells and retrospectives.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Business Analyst or similar technical role on data-driven projects.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data governance, and secure data handling.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with SQL and data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI, or similar).
  • Experience working with AWS services - particularly Glue, Redshift and IAM - is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret data models, schemas, and technical specification documentation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with technical teams and convey complex and detailed topics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile environments and using tools like Jira.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. GitLab) and technical documentation standards.
  • Experience with data anonymisation techniques (e.g. pseudonymisation, re-identification risk) is a major plus.
