The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Communications Officer in a full-time permanent position (part-time considered; minimum 0.8FTE).

The Communications Officer will work with the Head of Communications to deliver the communication strategy (internal and external) for the Department of Physics. The postholder will use their background in physics/science and proven track record in science copywriting to work with researchers to produce impactful content for the Department of Physics’ communication channels. They will work as part of a small team to increase the profile of the Department of Physics to a broad range of audiences.

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience with the ability to engage rapidly and effectively with scientific material. You will have internal and external science communications experience in print, digital, and social media and you will also have excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to communicate complex concepts to a non-specialist audience. Your excellent interpersonal skills will include diplomacy and the ability to inspire confidence in senior colleagues. You will have the ability to work independently in a complex environment, taking initiative when necessary and prioritising effectively to meet deadlines. You will be proficient in working with a range of computer-based and online applications, including website content management systems and you will have excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex data.
