Job description

Job Description:

This role requires a skilled network engineer to work as part of a team managing the network at a fixed Customer site in Yeovil, Somerset.

The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing network infrastructure and application components to ensure optimal network performance and customer satisfaction. The role also involves liaising with the Customer to provide guidance, information, and recommendations regarding network configurations, installations, and security.

The candidate must be willing to participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation if required.

Detailed Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot complex switching, routing, and wireless LAN/WAN environments.
  • Manage firewalls, VPNs, cabling, telephony, and VoIP systems.
  • Manage Windows servers, understanding DHCP, DNS, NPS, and SAN technologies.
  • Utilize network analysis tools such as Wireshark.
  • Manage help desk requests, incidents, and problems, ensuring SLAs are met.
  • Provide 3rd line technical support and assist 1st/2nd line support teams.
  • Document technical infrastructure and communicate effectively with customers.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience with Cisco network engineering, switching, and routing (CCNA/CCNP).
  • Firewall administration, VPNs (IPSEC & SSL), wireless, VoIP, SAN, and network security.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft DNS, DHCP, NPS, and Windows Server environments.
  • Certifications such as Checkpoint CCSA, VMware, Microsoft certifications, and ITIL.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, valid UK driving license, SC clearance or eligibility.
  • Additional skills: scripting, network monitoring tools (Nagios, Cacti), and cloud certifications (AWS, Microsoft 365).

Other Qualifications:
An advanced degree in a relevant field and relevant certifications are a plus.
