Job Description:

About the Role

Are you passionate about protecting the natural world? We're looking for an Environmental Conservation Officer to join our team at the Rare Breeds Centre, overseeing 100 acres of rich and varied countryside. This is a hands-on, impactful role where you'll help shape the future of conservation across our estate.

As Environmental Conservation Officer, you'll take the lead in managing and enhancing habitats, including woodland, ponds, wildflower meadows and hedgerows. You'll be responsible for conducting ecological surveys, analysing environmental changes, and using your findings to drive conservation efforts that make a real difference.

You'll work with staff, volunteers, school groups and members of the public to share knowledge, encourage participation, and create a deeper understanding of the natural environment. From pond-dipping sessions to species ID workshops, your educational input will be a core part of our visitor experience.

This role combines practical work with strategic planning. You'll develop and implement a long-term Conservation Management Plan, maintain tools and equipment, and ensure we remain compliant with relevant environmental and safety legislation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead conservation projects across our 100-acre estate

• Conduct wildlife and habitat surveys, keeping accurate records

• Manage woodland and pond areas, ensuring sustainable practices

• Deliver engaging educational sessions to school groups and visitors

• Supervise volunteers and work experience groups

• Contribute to seasonal events and visitor attraction development

About You

• A degree in conservation or relevant experience in the field

• Sound knowledge of habitat management and ecological practices

• Experience in public engagement and delivering education

• Practical skills in using conservation tools (chainsaws, ATVs, etc.)

• A full UK driving licence and clear DBS check
