We protect and improve the quality of water, making sure there is enough for people, businesses, agriculture and the environment. Our work helps to ensure people can enjoy the water environment through angling and navigation.

This is a pivotal time to join our Flood and Coastal Risk Management team at the Environment Agency. As we face increasingly complex environmental challenges, our role in delivering major infrastructure projects that protect communities and enhance resilience has never been more critical.

We are seeking an exceptional Director Thames Programme Delivery to join our senior leadership team. This key role will set the strategy and direction for the Thames Estuary and lower River Thames programmes, leading transformational change of major infrastructure investment in line with the Thames Estuary Phase 2 plan. As Director, you will lead a team of talented professionals developing the visions and direction for this vital programme, which protects 1.42 million people, 586,000 homes and £321 billion of residential property. Your influence will extend across the Environment Agency, government departments, and industry partners, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of flood risk management in the Thames region.

We are looking for individuals with substantial experience in programme management of large-scale projects and portfolios, with a strong track record of developing strategic plans and business cases. You will need exceptional relationship management skills to navigate complex public and private sector partnerships. The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant supply chain management, including oversight of intricate commercial arrangements and enterprise-wide procurement with the ability to define and develop appropriate delivery models that attract the required level of investment. Your vision for innovative delivery and commitment to environmental outcomes will be essential in leading this programme that will determine the strategic approach for the Thames Barrier and associated flood defences through to 2100.
