Job description

Cogent Skills is working with Kemira Chemicals (UK) Ltd to recruit an Apprentice Lab Technician to work at its production plant in Goole. We are looking for a motivated individual with an interest in and passion for science and the desire to achieve a professionally recognised qualification as a Lab Technician.

Qualification Requirements

5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) grade A*-C (4-9) including Maths and English and Science are desirable. The apprentice must also be either exempt or capable of achieving level 2 Maths and English (GCSE or functional skills) prior to taking end-point assessment.

£17,500 per annum

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity at our Goole manufacturing site, supporting production in the newly refurbished QC labs. We seek a motivated individual passionate about science and aiming for a recognised qualification as a Lab Technician.

As part of our quality and control department, you will support lab staff and the Technical Manager, assist in sample preparation, record test results, and provide QC support to manufacturing. This role includes undertaking online training courses.

Duties
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping standards in the laboratory
  • Perform product analysis following defined methods and SOPs
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing on QC
  • Prepare samples for external labs and customers
  • Record and report analytical results
  • Maintain laboratory reagents and consumables
  • Ensure proper disposal of laboratory waste
  • Manage lab chemical stocks
  • Review and maintain Lab COSHH & SOP Methods

Training To Be Delivered

Level 3 Certificate BTEC in Applied Science, Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship, delivered via blended learning, including workplace assessment, online knowledge sessions, practical workshops, and residential exams.

Future Prospects

Potential for continued development and permanent roles upon successful apprenticeship completion.

Things To Be Considered

Applicants must not already hold a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science. The role involves travel to work and training locations, with possible overtime. Employment is contingent upon a medical including drug and alcohol screening.
