Job description

We invite you to join our dedicated team at Brading Roman Villa. The Front of House (FOH) and kitchen team at Brading Roman Villa are essential components and serve as the first point of contact for all visitors. These areas, including the museum reception, shop, and cafe, are where a "first impression" is created, and maintaining a high standard of customer service is crucial.

Role Overview

The cook/baker is responsible for creating delicious food, developing our daily and seasonal specials menu, demonstrating a strong team ethic, and maintaining flexibility in shift work to ensure excellent service and visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Food Preparation and Service
    • Produce high-quality, freshly prepared food, including baked goods, hot and cold drinks.
    • Manage stock levels, order supplies, and ensure proper stock rotation.
    • Assist in menu planning in consultation with the FOH Manager.
    • Ensure food safety standards, hygiene, and allergen information are properly maintained and communicated.
  2. Hygiene and Safety
    • Monitor food quality and service standards.
    • Maintain records as required by management and external agencies.
    • Follow health and safety regulations, including risk assessments.
    • Undertake necessary training.
  3. Customer Service and Café Operations
    • Greet visitors warmly and provide excellent customer service.
    • Assist with café setup, cleaning, and closing procedures.
    • Handle customer complaints and report feedback.
    • Process sales accurately and handle payments securely.
    • Assist with other café duties as needed, including covering reception during busy periods.
  4. Additional Duties
    • Participate in staff meetings.
    • Report maintenance issues.
    • Ensure security of products and cash.
    • Perform stock takes and other related tasks.
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum requirements:

  • Current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Level 2 Award in Food Allergy Awareness
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English

Preferable:

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate (training provided after employment)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate (training provided after employment)
  • At least 2 years' experience managing a café kitchen
  • Experience in high-quality baking
Employment Details

Part-time, minimum 14 hours per week, typically Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 4:30/5 pm. Additional hours may be required for covering sickness, holidays, Sundays, evenings, and public holidays. Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 19th May 2025, with training ideally starting from 27th May 2025, and employment beginning 2nd June 2025.
