We are recruiting for a Configuration Manager for a leading Defence & Space organisation based in Portsmouth.
Ideally, you will have current SC Clearance; if not, you must be eligible to obtain it.
Role Overview
As part of the CADM team, you are responsible for ensuring Company guidelines are adhered to and CM (Configuration Management) best practices are followed. You provide guidance to the CADM team stakeholders. You support process production/improvement. You support CM tools user guides production, CM tools improvement, and CM tools new releases training. You work closely with project, product, and service teams while being part of the CADM team. You are the 1st line of support and training for the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool / Configuration Management Database (CMDB) users.
Responsibilities
- You are responsible for performing CM activities (identification, control and planning, change, status accounting, audit).
- You are responsible for recording, controlling, maintaining, and distributing the controlled data.
- You are responsible for providing reports to the CADM Team Lead and/or the project, product, or service teams.
- You work in a shared workload environment, supporting one or more projects/products as the CADM focal point.
- You are responsible, jointly with the CADM team, to maintain the PLM/CMDB in a fit state.
- You may be required to manage data in more than one environment.
- You must work autonomously and as part of a team, with good organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Good communication and teamwork with internal stakeholders are essential.
- You will correspond with nominated counterparts in the customer and suppliers, recording external documentation into the CMDB and sending internal documentation externally.
- You support all CM activities facing external stakeholders, providing evidence and supporting related requests.
- You ensure CM compliance by contributing to project-level activities with stakeholders.
As part of the CADM team, your responsibilities will include:
- Recording documents/data in the CMDB.
- Controlling existing documents in the CMDB.
- Distributing documents/data internally and externally.
- Monitoring and controlling the quality of internal documents.
- Creating and managing relevant structures in the CMDB.
- Monitoring and controlling the state of the CMDB.
- Controlling access to the CMDB.
- Supporting project team members with CADM-related queries and providing guidance on document and data management and CMDB use.
- Proposing process improvements.
- Supporting CADM team members.
- Reporting on activities, CMDB status, and documentation/data status.
- Supporting the CADM Team Leader.
- Managing the day-to-day configuration status of the project.
- Producing project configuration and data management plans, change management plans, and procedures.
- Setting up and running CM activities during the project lifecycle, including audits.
- Managing project workload and highlighting adjustments needed.
- Leading CADM team members assigned to projects.
- Working closely with the customer and project teams to meet requirements efficiently.
- Creating, managing, and distributing relevant structures like BOMs, product trees, etc.
- Supporting project team members with CADM queries and guidance.
- Setting up and running Change Control Board (CCB) activities.
- Developing CM processes and tool improvements.
Skill Set
Essential
- Digitally literate and proficient with MS Office tools.
- Experience with file/data management tools (MS Office, PDF editor, FTP, Nero, etc.).
- Full knowledge of Configuration Management processes.
- Experience with Product Data Management tools (Windchill, Teamcenter, Aras Minerva, etc.).
- Understanding of project and product lifecycle.
- Exposure to APQP, CMII is advantageous.
- Experience setting up configuration processes on new projects.
- Good educational background (Degree, HNC, Diploma, NVQ Level 5 or higher).
Desirable
- CM II or equivalent qualification.
- European languages are advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years of Configuration Management experience.
- Experience working with customers in a CM liaison role.
- Experience in sensitive data environments is advantageous.
This is an umbrella contract; the role is Inside IR35.
