British Sugar is a home-grown success story and one of the most efficient and competitive beet processers in the world. Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year. We, in turn, make this in to over 1 million tonnes of sugar, serving customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets. Electrical & Control Engineer

Job Purpose

British Sugar is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Electrical and Control professional to join our Engineering team. Safety, Energy and Performance are at the heart of our business. As the subject matter expert for electrical and control assets from Generation, High Voltage Distribution, Motor Control Centres through to Instrumentation and state of the art Distributed Control Systems, you will role model and support the site teams, through leading the enhancement of safety, reliability and production performance.

You will have a detailed understanding of plant electrical and control equipment and practical experience of a large-scale manufacturing, oil & gas, generation, chemical or process plant.

Core Accountabilities

  • Be the site subject matter expert (SME) for all electrical engineering activities and lead experts in control and instrumentation to enhance safety, reliability and production throughput in line with site and business objectives.
  • Coach, monitor and support the Autonomous Production Unit (APU) teams to ensure the technical integrity of electrical, control and instrumentation systems to ensure that product, process and systems meet specified requirements.
  • Manage the implementation of British Sugar Electrical and Control code of practices and procedures. Be the Responsible Person for the management of potentially explosive atmospheres (DSEAR) on site.
  • Line management of Electrical and Instrument support manager and support the learning and development of the site electrical and instrument team through the provision of coaching and mentoring to ensure that the team is fully equipped to deliver their objectives, including succession planning for key specialist activities.
  • Lead, develop and motivate the site-based Control Engineering Team, to ensure that they are engaged and equipped with the skills, knowledge and guidance to deliver maximum systems efficiency.
  • Lead by example by role-modelling the British Sugar Values and behaviours.
  • Maintain a 5 year plan for management of electrical and control assets

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

  • HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of the British Standards for Engineering Plant, Equipment and Practices
  • Authorised to Electrical Senior Authorised Level to operate and issue electrical safety certificates for 11kV systems or have the technical competence and qualification to be authorised as an SAP
  • A detailed understanding of industrial electrical and control plant, including Generation, Distribution, Motor Control Centres, Variable Speed Drives, instrumentation, Distributed Control Systems, PLCs
  • NEBOSH safety Certificate is desirable but not essential
