Job description

Are you a qualified Mechanical Gas Engineer looking for a role with real purpose, variety, and the opportunity to make a difference in your local community? Join Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust’s dedicated Estates team and play a key role in maintaining and improving the essential gas systems that power our healthcare services across Sussex. You’ll be part of a supportive and skilled workforce that values your expertise and offers plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

In this role, you’ll use your knowledge and experience to keep our Trust buildings safe, compliant and running efficiently—helping ensure patients and staff can rely on high-quality, well-maintained facilities every day.

This vacancy offers flexibility to be based at either Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital or Brighton General Hospital, giving you the choice of location that works best for you.

As a Mechanical Gas Engineer, You Will

  • Carry out installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs on a range of gas-fired systems and equipment, including boilers, water heaters, and catering appliances.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance across SCFT and other local organisations we support.
  • Support apprentices and semi-skilled colleagues with advice and guidance.
  • Use a variety of digital and analogue testing tools and update statutory records.
  • Work flexibly across Trust sites, with mileage reimbursed, and participate in an on-call rota for additional pay.
  • Help create and maintain our preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Be part of a team that values innovation, technical skill, and excellent service delivery.
