Job Description

Band 5 - £29,970 - £36,483 per annum

Permanent 37.5 hours per week

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is recruiting a competent and committed Clinical Engineer to support the maintenance and management of medical devices within the Clinical Engineering team. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff to enhance patient care through effective medical device management.

We are seeking two Clinical Engineering Technicians to support various areas across the trust, including high acuity zones such as Critical Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, Cardiac Coronary Care, and Respiratory High Care. The role involves maintaining and repairing priority equipment, with experience in medical device maintenance, repair, commissioning, and management essential. You will also advise and assist nursing and other staff in the use of medical devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive maintenance, repair, commissioning, and management services for medical devices across various clinical specialties and areas, including Critical Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, Cardiac Care, and Emergency Department.
  • Assist and advise nursing and clinical staff in the use of medical devices.
  • Organise and update service, operation, and instruction procedures.

Qualifications
Essential
  • BEng/BSc in electronics or a scientific subject, or HNC/HND working towards a degree.
Desirable
  • Additional relevant qualifications and experience.
Skills and Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in office and bespoke software applications.
  • Licensed to drive a van for technical support at PCTs and other locations.
Desirable
  • Experience with specialised medical device testing equipment.
  • Mechanical workshop skills.
  • Understanding of clinical measurements and procedures.
Experience
  • At least 18 months experience with electronic and electromechanical systems or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience with medical devices and healthcare environments.
  • Manufacturer’s training courses.
  • IT experience.
  • Membership of a professional institute, e.g., Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT).
