Senior / Principal Waste Engineer - Warrington / West Cumbria - Permanent

About the Role:

Assystem is a leading company in the nuclear decommissioning sector, providing waste management services to strategic nuclear clients in the UK, including life extension and feasibility assessments.

Your Responsibilities:

• Provide authoritative waste management and characterization advice to Assystem and our clients.
• Prepare and review waste and characterization documentation, including Status Reports, Plans, Waste Inventories, and Technical Reports.
• Contribute to bids with key waste and characterization input.
• Articulate durations and costs for planned work.
• Promote waste-informed decommissioning and sustainable waste management practices.
• Lead studies on Best Available Techniques and Optioneering.
• Serve as a primary contact between Assystem and clients, possibly working on-site or seconded to client organizations.
• Provide training and coaching to staff and contractors.
• Ensure value through effective resource management and BAT implementation.
• Possess knowledge of Data Quality Objectives (DQO) methodology.
• Lead small teams when necessary.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

• Experience with waste characterisation, disposal, and treatment routes in the UK and internationally.
• Understanding of UK legislation impacting waste management.
• Knowledge of transport regulations for dangerous goods and waste consignments.
• Experience with sampling plans, BAT, and Waste Management Plans (WMPs).
• Ability to lead teams and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications:

• Degree in a scientific or engineering field or relevant experience.
• Certificate as a Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA).
• Transport of Class 7 materials (Level 2 or 3).
• Chartered status.
• In-depth UK waste legislation knowledge.
