Job description

Employment Lawyer

London Local Authority

Locum Contract

Hybrid Working Arrangement

Sellick Partnership is pleased to be recruiting for an Employment Lawyer to join a well-established Council in South London.

The assignment will be for an initial 3-month contract, with a view to extend on a rolling basis. This is a full-time role and will require office attendance once per week, although there is some flexibility on this. Our client needs a locum Employment Lawyer by December, so candidates who are available immediately or on short notice periods are preferred.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of employment law and experience working in a similar role so they can hit the ground running. Local government or public sector experience is desirable, but not essential.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Representing the Council before the Employment Tribunal
  • Conducting advocacy
  • Working closely with senior managers and stakeholders on a range of employment law disputes
  • Providing employment law advice
  • Handling a caseload of contentious and non-contentious employment matters (TUPE, dismissals, discrimination, etc)

The successful Employment Lawyer will benefit from:

  • Flexible working pattern
  • Genuinely friendly and supportive team
  • Competitive rate of pay

This role would be suited to a Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive or Barrister, who is confident dealing with a mixed Employment caseload. The successful candidate may be required to attend Courts or Tribunals, but can also instruct Counsel, so willingness to advocate is essential.

We encourage interested applicants to apply immediately to be considered for shortlisting. Alternatively, should you require further information or wish to discuss your suitability before applying please contact Rayhaneh Tehrani in our Manchester office for a confidential discussion.
