What you’ll be responsible for
- Support the Response Pod Team in delivering an efficient and effective 24/7 service with no avoidable failures in service delivery. You’ll act as the senior on-site lead for inspectors and contractors, providing direction and coordination and ensuring that issues are escalated when required.
- Respond to issues as directed by Operational Response and Control teams, providing regular feedback to ensure that risks are understood and customers are kept up to date with progress throughout our response. You’ll be responding to a wide variety of issues ranging from single customer contacts to major failures of large diameter water mains. You’ll be responsible for investigating, pinpointing the fault and taking action to resolve the issue.
- Provide service to customers directly in response to urgent issues and ensure that customers are fully informed about what happens next.
- Take a lead in ensuring that all vehicles, plant and equipment are adequately maintained and ready to deploy at all times, with particular focus on maintaining of compliance with Water Quality and Safety standards expected. You will be responsible for ensuring that activities are undertaken in time and coordinating colleagues around you.
- Utilise all emergency response equipment available to restore supplies as quickly as possible in the event of failures, whilst ensuring that water quality is not compromised.
- Liaise with contractors in our supply chain to ensure efficient coordination of the deployment of people, vehicles and equipment during larger events.
- Support the delivery of planned work on the Distribution network ensuring that risk assessment/method statements are followed and safety and water quality are put at the forefront of everything we do. You’ll support with investigating more complexed network issues and provide feedback on potential network improvements that could be made.
- Monitor contractors’ performance through carrying out inspections and safety conversations. You’ll ensure that people in our supply chain understand the importance of the highest standards of safety and service to customers. You’ll review contractor RAMS to ensure suitability for the task being undertaken and issue Permits to Work / Certificates of Isolation to enable works to proceed.
- Carry out and document on-site Risk Assessments to ensure that hazards are identified and risks mitigated or reduced as far as possible. You’ll ensure that activities undertaken comply with all Health and Safety legislation and DCWW Health & Safety policies.
- Carry out routine daily checks on vehicles in order to comply with Road Traffic Act requirements and to ensure compliance with DCWW Operators Licence. You’ll be required to accurately record and report defects.
- Recording all activities in the relevant corporate systems (SAP, PowerApps, Procedural Forms) to ensure that there is an auditable record of our actions.
- Taking Water Quality samples from Tankers and other temporary Supplies, in line with our procedures, to ensure that the water we supply our customers meets the standards we expect. You’ll need to support with ensuring that logistics arrangements are understood and complied with to transport samples to our laboratory in time for analysis each day.
- Ensure chlorination of tankers, bowsers and hoses is completed and recorded when necessary.
- Ensure that no tanker or water storage equipment remains full with the same water for more than 7 days.

Qualifications
- BTEC/equivalent qualification or suitable demonstrable experience in Water Operations
Experience
Essential
- Proven experience working in a front-line or technical role in the Water, Utility or Logistics sectors
- Experience in taking a lead amongst peers and able to demonstrate examples where others have looked to you for guidance, support and direction
- Experience in taking a lead during time critical events and providing direction/coordination to others
Desirable
- Experience with reactive logistic operations and an understanding of water/wastewater operations
- Experience in working to stringent Health and Safety procedures and regulatory targets/constraints and a proven track record in delivering to high standards and levels of compliance
- Demonstrable experience in working with contractors to deliver high standards of safety compliance and performance

Shift Information
Consists of 12 hour shifts: 2 days (working 6am-6pm) followed by2 nights (6pm-6am),then fourdays off - this cycle rotates eighttimes. After the seventh cycle,you’ll receive18 days off and then the cycle repeats again. You cannot book annual leave as this is a fixed pattern and annual leave is already accounted for, however on exception, you can swap a shift or buy some additional leave days.
There is a 25% additional shift allowance payment on top of the base salary for this role.
