Garment Technologist Freelance - 1 Day a Week
Kingston-Upon-Thames

Purpose of the role
To develop products to Pringle of Scotland's high standards, ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. To oversee garment development from initiation through all stages of production, working closely with Design, Buying teams, and suppliers to ensure quality, fit, fabric performance, and sizing meet specifications.
Responsibilities
Design
- Work with the design team to create and update specification sheets aligned with the critical path for new designs.
- Understand seasonal strategy, design vision, and customer focus to complement the garment tech focus.
- Develop standardized fits for core styles and classic pieces.
- Assist in initial design and proto stages with fabric construction and performance knowledge.
- Manage graded size specifications.
- Develop new fits and blocks for upcoming ranges; maintain and communicate the library, encouraging ease of use.
Production
- Organize fit meetings with senior garment technologist and buying team.
- Manage fit meetings according to critical path, time, and budget constraints.
- Provide technical data and feedback to suppliers regarding fits and size charts.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues, ensuring quality is proactively managed.
- Approve fabric testing and care label information with suppliers.
- Monitor garments throughout manufacturing to ensure standards are met.
- Adhere to critical production and delivery timelines, being aware of launch dates.
- Escalate issues promptly where product quality or delivery is at risk.
- Handle production issues swiftly with commercial judgment.
- Evaluate suppliers' quality performance post-season.
QC
- Conduct QC inspections on all goods before approval and dispatch.
- Visit stores to spot check bulk goods.
Commercial Awareness
- React quickly to and resolve potential problems.
