A leading research laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to explore stress signaling pathways and contribute to innovative research in neurodegenerative diseases. The role involves working with an interdisciplinary team and developing new approaches to enhance cellular resilience. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in biochemistry and a strong interest in kinases and signaling.
Postdoctoral Scientist
Salary £41,344 per annum
Fixed term, 3 years
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
The position is for a Postdoctoral Scientist with expertise in stress signaling, kinases and/or phosphatases, protein biochemistry, enzymology, and/or cell biology. Responsibilities include studying the regulation of kinases and/or phosphatases, along with small molecule activators or inhibitors.
Dr. Anne Bertolotti’s research focuses on enhancing stress signaling pathways to increase cellular resilience and combat diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders. The lab develops approaches to modulate phosphatases or kinases involved in the integrated stress response and aims to understand these enzymes structurally (see key publications). The small molecules identified are currently in clinical trials for neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate will investigate the mechanisms of these enzymes and contribute to the development of new small-molecule activators.
You will be part of an interdisciplinary team at the LMB, with expertise spanning biochemistry, structural biology, chemistry, molecular and cell biology, and transgenic animal models. The team has a strong record of translating basic research into medical applications.
Further details can be obtained from Dr. Anne Bertolotti via email: aberto@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk
Ideal candidates will be ambitious, creative, and fearless, capable of developing new approaches to explore unknowns. A PhD in biochemistry or related fields is required, with completion expected within 6 months if pending. Candidates must have relevant experience demonstrated by at least one impactful, original publication, and a strong interest in kinases and signaling is essential.
This three-year position is suitable for recent PhD graduates or those seeking to shift research disciplines or enhance their skills. Working with leading scientists, you will benefit from excellent facilities and a high-quality research environment.
The LMB offers a collaborative culture, located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with amenities including parking, cycle enclosures, public transport links, a staff restaurant with roof terrace, nursery, and sports facilities. Benefits include a defined benefit pension scheme with 16% employer contribution, 40.5 days of holiday per year, and support for training and qualifications.
The LMB is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). More information is available at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
This role is eligible for UKRI endorsement for a UK Global Talent Visa, with immigration costs reclaimable after employment (terms apply). The closing date is 01 May 2025. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and early application is encouraged. Interviews will be scheduled as applications are reviewed.
