Job description

Job summary

Due to a restructuring of the team to align with our new clinical Care Groups and internal promotions, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a People Policy and Governance Advisor to join the newly created People Policy and Governance Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing and embedding fair, inclusive, and values-based people policies and governance across a large, complex NHS organisation.

In this varied role working within a dynamic and supportive team, you'll support the shaping and implementation of our People policies, provide advice on policies and governance issues, and contribute to people-related projects and programmes across the Trust. You'll work closely with colleagues across the People Directorate, managers/leaders, and staff-side colleagues to ensure our people policies and processes support our staff and reflect our commitment to a Just and Restorative Culture.

We're looking for someone who is proactive, collaborative and able to manage their own workload confidently. You'll need a good understanding of employment legislation, a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to fairness and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the lifecycle of policy and guidance development - from research and drafting to consultation, approval, and implementation, including supporting policy-related training and coaching.
  • Provide advice and guidance on People policies, employment law, and terms and conditions, helping colleagues to apply policies and resolve issues confidently, fairly, and consistently.
  • Work collaboratively with Staffside/union colleagues, managers/leaders, and stakeholders to ensure our People policies promote inclusion and fairness, helping to embed a Just and Restorative Culture approach in our People practices and policies, thereby improving staff wellbeing and workplace experiences.
  • Contribute to People-governance processes, including participating in job evaluation panels, providing guidance on job descriptions to ensure fair and equitable grading, supporting people-related projects and programmes, attending meetings, tracking progress, and taking notes.
  • Contribute to the coordination of Trust-wide communications on People-related matters, including managing content on our intranet and social media.

This is a great opportunity for someone with good HR knowledge and a commitment to values-based practice to contribute to shaping the future of our People policies and governance at NUH.
