Job description

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to support the establishment and development of a new, evidence- and value-based model of care for children and young people with persistent pain and their families. The role is suitable for doctors at any stage of training after completing the Foundation Programme. It is unbanded, for 5 sessions (18.75 hours), and open to doctors in paediatrics, primary, and adult hospital care, as well as mental health services, with appropriate support and registration to work in the UK.

About Us

We are a teaching health board affiliated with Cardiff University, which plays a prominent role in teaching, research, and development within the UK and internationally. We train future medical professionals and offer excellent educational opportunities, including study leave and rotas, although these posts are not officially recognized for training.

Main Duties
  • Conduct approximately 1.5 clinics per week, including persistent pain and rheumatology clinics, along with administrative support.
  • Assess and support inpatient referrals and other ward duties.
  • Engage in service development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support an integrated network of care and interdisciplinary team working.
  • Provide teaching and support for a community of practice.

There are no current plans or funding for out-of-hours commitments, but this can be discussed individually based on funding availability. The post complies with the New Deal and European Working Time Directive. The working pattern will be communicated prior to starting. Participation in the 'Hospital at Night' rota may be required, and the successful candidate will partake in teaching within the Child Health Department, including undergraduate, nursing, and postgraduate training.
