Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled teacher to provide tailored support for a young person with a strong interest in academic challenges, particularly in mathematics, alongside a need for structured physical activities. This role requires an individual who can create a dynamic and engaging learning environment while fostering independence and life skills.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and stretch mathematical ability, incorporating mental arithmetic, number partitioning, and problem-solving strategies.
  2. Integrate structured physical activities, such as bat and ball games, to support regulation and engagement.
  3. Provide clear explanations and reassurance to reduce anxiety related to changes in routine, visual impairment, and epilepsy.
  4. Encourage independence in reading through assistive technologies, supporting access to both fiction and non-fiction texts.
  5. Develop practical life skills, including personal care routines, meal preparation, social interactions, and independent navigation of familiar environments.
  6. Support the development of confidence in using contactless payments and locating items in shops.
  7. Ensure dignified and appropriate assistance with personal care and eating, adapting support as needed based on health requirements.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. Experience working with students with additional needs, particularly in a post-16 setting.
  2. Strong mathematical knowledge and the ability to design challenging and engaging activities.
  3. The ability to provide structured and predictable routines while remaining adaptable to the individual’s needs.
  4. A calm, patient, and attentive approach, ensuring full engagement and focus at all times.
  5. An understanding of how to support independence in learning, communication, and daily life.
  6. Experience using assistive technology to enhance access to learning materials.

This is a unique opportunity to support a young person in building confidence, independence, and essential life skills while continuing to develop their academic strengths. If you are an experienced and passionate teacher looking to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply.
