Job description

Job Vacancy: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

The Governors of St. Aidan’s Catholic Primary School are seeking to appoint a professional and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team from 1st September 2025. This role involves working 29.5 hours per week during term time (38 weeks per year).

St. Aidan’s Catholic Primary School is a large, successful, and happy school with excellent partnerships with parents, the Church, and the local community. The successful candidate will have proven experience working across Key Stages and employ a range of strategies to promote good behaviour and create a purposeful learning environment. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently, under supervision, and as part of a team.

Desirable skills include expertise in IT/Computing or PE, though these are not essential. We are eager to welcome the right person to our dedicated team.

Main Duties:
  1. Provide whole class teaching cover for PPA, Management Time, Staff CPD, and short-term sickness.
  2. Monitor, assess, record, and report on pupil achievement, progress, and development.
  3. Support the subject lead in a designated curriculum area.
  4. Experience of teaching the National Curriculum to KS1 and KS2 is preferred; if specialising in IT/Computing, experience in teaching the Computing Curriculum to KS1 and KS2 is essential, along with knowledge of maintaining a website and using Outlook.
  5. Support pupils with barriers to learning on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, or within/outside the classroom.
  6. Develop and implement individual plans for pupils.
  7. Adjust lessons and work plans as appropriate.
  8. Provide objective feedback and reports on pupils’ achievement.
  9. Produce learning resources and collaborate with teachers on lesson planning.
  10. Deliver local and national learning strategies.
  11. Contribute to policy and procedure development.
  12. Perform duties efficiently and economically.
  13. Engage in personal development relevant to the role.
