Job description

This position is for an apprentice to develop a broad range of skills within a Medical Engineering environment. The position will take a progressive and developing route for servicing and repair of equipment within a medical engineering setting.

The Apprentice will gain an HNC/HTQ Qualification in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at a local college.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
  • Any age post full-time education 16+
  • Cannot already be on an Apprenticeship or any Government funded training
  • Cannot have a qualification at the same or higher level in the same vocational area (there needs to be significant new learning in line with the Apprenticeship Standard)
  • Has been a UK resident for 3 or more years

Apprenticeship funding rules 2024 to 2025

National Apprenticeship Wage: 2025-26 (w.e.f. 1st April)

Year 1: An apprentice of any age in Year 1 of an apprenticeship. £7.55/hour (£14,722.50 p.a. approx. based on 37.5 hrs/wk.)

Year 2 Onwards:

  • Under 18 = £7.55/hour (£14,722.50 p.a. approx. based on 37.5 hrs/wk.)
  • 18 - 20 yrs. = £10.00/hr (£19,500 p.a. approx. based on 37.5 hrs/wk.)
  • 21+ yrs. = £12.21/hr (£23,809.50 p.a. approx. based on 37.5 hrs/wk.)
Responsibilities:
  • Carry out medical equipment commissioning, calibration, safety checks, repair, maintenance, adaptation to manufacturer's specifications, and safe disposal.
  • Certify that all calibration tasks are performed regularly to ensure safety and accuracy.
  • Requisition stock and materials, including sourcing, cost coding, and pricing.
  • Ensure operational safety and compliance with safety standards and regulations; attend training and CPD courses.
  • Maintain administrative records related to technical work.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and external agencies for equipment not serviced in-house.
  • Complete service records and be responsible for data entry.
