Job description

Summary of Role

The Growing Healthy Project is developing garden and allotment sites for staff, patients, and the community to work on. We are looking to develop a team of volunteers with practical skills to help with tasks such as building planters, making composters, maintaining or building a shed, and other practical aspects of an allotment.

Working alongside other volunteers and under the Growing Healthy team, you could learn new skills, share your knowledge, experience the feel-good factor of growing and gardening, make a difference, and enjoy healthy food that you have grown!

This could be a great way to share your skills, build your experience, and improve your prospects while making a positive difference.

  1. Key Tasks:

Maintenance and construction of items in the allotment and gardens, including but not limited to:

  • Making raised beds and other items (e.g., nets, composters, shed, greenhouse)
  • Developing the site's accessibility
  • Making planters, benches, and other wooden items
  • Painting and staining items
  • Maintaining tools
  • Involvement in all gardening and growing activities

We welcome volunteers to contribute ideas to improve the garden space further.

  1. Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Trades, DIY, or maintenance background
  • Interest in gardening
  • Self-starter
  • Physically fit; able to stand/walk in the garden for up to 2 hours
  • Self-motivated; able to identify and complete tasks independently
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Understanding of the importance of commitment
  • Ability to work as a team with other volunteers and colleagues
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding and application of CARE values
