Job description

Binnies UK, part of the RSK Group, is currently seeking experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors.

This senior-level role involves supporting site staff by leading all commercial and procurement aspects of projects. The role ensures site teams operate according to contract requirements, site and company procedures, and reporting systems. Responsibilities include procuring subcontract packages, administering contract documentation, compiling complex project cost/budget reports, and maintaining cash flow. The role also provides support for commercial, contractual, procurement, and financial services, resolving related problems and ensuring prompt payments to subcontractors.

As part of the project leadership team, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will oversee the direction and execution of surveying functions from tender to final account, aiming for maximum quality and profitability. Key duties include:

  1. Interpreting and understanding contractual obligations, responsibilities, and liabilities, including contract estimates and settlement adjustments.
  2. Issuing notices and contractual correspondence, pursuing variations, claims, and entitlements for final account settlement.
  3. Producing and implementing project procurement plans aligned with delivery strategies and timelines.
  4. Managing subcontract procurement, including issuing tenders, assessing bids, negotiating terms, and preparing subcontract documents.
  5. Managing subcontract work packages, including documentation, negotiations, and assessments.
  6. Resolving non-complex commercial, contractual, and construction issues.
  7. Submitting financial reports such as valuations, CVRs, forecasts, cash flow projections, and turnover forecasts.
  8. Ensuring adherence to commercial procedures and reporting systems by delivery staff.
  9. Reporting and mitigating project risks.
  10. Maximizing contractual entitlements through applications for payment, issuing invoices, and securing prompt payment.
  11. Maintaining the company's reputation with clients, suppliers, and the public.
  12. Participating in creating a safe working environment.
  13. Developing and implementing recovery action plans when needed.
  14. Providing contractual, commercial, procurement, and financial advice to the delivery team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or substantial in-role experience.
  • Working towards recognized professional accreditation (RICS, CICES, etc.) is desirable.

Key Requirements:

  • Detailed knowledge of contract responsibilities.
  • Good understanding of the construction process.
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Leadership skills to direct a team.
  • Proficiency with software packages, including MS Office.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Developed people management and supervisory capabilities.
