Head of Health, Safety, Quality & Environment

Working out of the Durrington Head Office and in the field, you will lead the way in establishing and maintaining the highest Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards.

As the Head of HSQE, you will bring ideas, passion and energy, and have the ability to inspire and guide your team of Health & Safety Advisors and Business Systems and Compliance Manager to succeed in delivering quality advice, guidance and coaching, measured by key metrics and standards.

Position: Head of Health, Safety, Quality & Environment

Location:based out of Durrington Head Office (Worthing, West Sussex), plus travel around our network including Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and Isle of Wight

Job Type:permanent, full-time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, plus Senior Leadership Team on-call rota

Salary: Competitive, depending upon experience (plus car allowance)

About the Role:

Due to continued growth and development, we are now looking for safety conscious people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Southern Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to health and safety issues.

  • Manage and guide the HSQE Manager and H&S Advisors to achieve strategic targets and objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication and relationship with client and other stakeholders
  • Support with Business Management System responsibilities
  • Oversee NCR, R&O, Depot Compliance, Fire Safety & First Aid Audits
  • Attend and participate in Regional Meetings, Southern Water forums and team meetings and PL + EL
  • Deliver monthly performance reports to Group and Southern Water
  • Dispatch monthly TBT’s and iAM Learning courses
  • Review H&S incident trends to identify areas for improvement
  • Oversee introduction of auditing tool and all actions/observations are closed out
  • Dispatch D&A random tracker to all regions and monitor completion
  • Safety communications on email, on call and blue cards
  • Oversee HSQE areas are performing (Env, Health (HR), Safety (team), Quality (HOD))
  • Review and implement legislation changes to procedures and policies
  • Ensure all investigations are completed accompanied with learning notification.
  • Any other ad-hoc tasks or projects on behalf of the Senior Leadership Team or COO of Regulated Water and Utilities (South).
  • Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have effective organisation skills and the ability to multitask and prioritise your workload is important. Having strong interpersonal, relationship building, networking skills and communication is crucial to the role as is having a professional demeanour to engage with all stakeholders. Being proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and strong attention to detail is imperative. Adaptability, flexibility and resilience is key.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Health and Safety Diploma (or equivalent) is required
  • NEBOSH NGC is desirable
  • Previous experience in a managerial role is essential
  • Experience in the drainage, utilities or retail industry will be beneficial
  • A full UK drivers licence is required to travel around our network
