Job Description:

Academics is recruiting on behalf of an 'Outstanding' Primary SEN School in Southampton for an experienced and compassionate Special School Assistant to join ASAP.

This is a full-time, term-time contract. The school is open to offering a temp-to-perm arrangement for candidates seeking a permanent position. Only apply if you are ultimately looking for a permanent role.

Requirements include GCSE C or above in English and Maths, or Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:45 am to 3:15 pm.

The ideal candidate will be hardworking, resilient, and able to build positive relationships with pupils. Support, motivation, and encouragement in learning, along with acting as a positive role model, are essential.

The school caters to pupils aged 4-11 with complex learning difficulties, including autism, speech and language disorders, and challenging behaviors. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Experience working with children in a school setting is preferred. Skills in PECS, Makaton, etc., are advantageous. Candidates should be compassionate, enthusiastic, reliable, and resilient.

You will support classes of up to 9 pupils, working alongside 1 teacher and 3 LSAs. Responsibilities include supporting on a 1:1 and small group basis, and assisting with feeding and personal hygiene duties.

The school features purpose-built facilities, including soft play rooms, multi-sensory interactive rooms, and a hydrotherapy pool.
