Job description

Part Time 26 hours (18 hours permanent, 8 hours fixed term contract until January 2026).

The funding for the BME project currently is due to end in May 2026, whilst we are hopeful this will continue, we are waiting on confirmation of this.

£33,415 per annum and great benefits including:

Our Refuge in Brighton and Hove provides an excellent opportunity for you to become a domestic abuse refuge manager, where you will be empowered and encouraged to support survivors to reach their full potential and work with a team of specialist domestic abuse case workers. Your unique skills and attributes will be used to support survivors on a day-to-day basis, enabling them to gain tools to live free from abuse.

Typical Day as a Refuge Manager

  • Day-to-day running of the refuge.
  • Daily team briefings with your team.
  • Support, develop, and nurture a team of high-performing support staff.
  • Offer emotional support and wellbeing interventions to staff and survivors.
  • Review the quality and delivery of person-centered support planning for survivors.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators and statistics.
  • Promote and deliver a truly inclusive service.
  • Oversee referrals, risk assessments, safety planning, and support plans.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and best practices are observed by your team.
  • Oversee health and safety.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings.

You will bring

  • Passion to support our survivors to live their best lives, working collaboratively with an eye for detail.
  • Passion to support a staff team to deliver the best service possible.
  • We understand that not everyone has all the experience we’d like, so if you have a "can do" positive attitude and a zest for supporting people, the rest we can teach you!
  • Experience of being a team leader or in a management role within a Domestic Abuse service, or similar working environment.
  • The ability to work using your initiative, remain calm under pressure, and have a resilient approach.

Job Details

  • This role is within our Brighton & Hove Services, which include a 15-bed refuge and an outreach service supporting BME survivors in the community.
  • You will typically work Monday-Friday, 9-5.30, with flexibility. Staff operate on a rota between 8 am-6 pm with an on-call rota outside these hours.
  • You will be based in our Brighton & Hove refuge.
  • Confidence in using technology for overseeing support plans, risk assessments, collaborating with colleagues, and completing online training is required.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be arranged by Stonewater.
