Senior Environmental Hydraulic Modeller

Do you have proven environmental experience and an interest in mentoring junior staff?

Are you a dynamic team player with a background in site-based work?

Due to growing demand across a range of exciting projects, we have an opportunity for an Environment Focused Hydraulic Modeller to support our Catchment and River Restoration teams. The role involves Natural Flood Management studies, River Restoration work, and more.

The job will involve:

  • Using and analysing datasets, GIS, and modelling outputs.
  • Providing technical River and Catchment Restoration advice.
  • Leading Environmental Hydraulic modelling (1D and 2D), especially in Hec-RAS and/or TUFLOW.
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team to steer design.
  • Writing and reviewing reports.
  • Conducting geomorphology, river restoration, and NFM fieldwork.
  • Mentoring junior staff.
  • Managing projects and teams, ensuring delivery within time, budget, and quality standards.
  • Presenting at client meetings and workshops, stakeholder engagement.
  • Assisting with and leading tenders for new work.
Location:

Based in Saltaire or Coleshill, with flexible working arrangements supported by JBA.

Qualifications and Experience:

Looking for organized, motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals with proven environmental experience and water/environmental interests. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential. Broad experience in NFM and river restoration, understanding of fluvial geomorphology, hydraulics, hydrology, and ecology is preferred. Candidates should be team players, willing to travel within the UK and Ireland, and have a relevant degree or equivalent. Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM, CGeog) is valued and encourages ongoing professional development.

Essential Skills:
  • Understanding of Nature Based Solutions for catchment resilience.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary design teams and explaining environmental benefits.
  • Site-based fieldwork experience.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW).
  • Knowledge of UK catchment hydrology.
  • Project management and client relationship skills.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Experience with GIS, report writing, and quality assurance.
  • UK Driving license.
Desirable Skills:
  • Understanding sediment transport, erosion, and deposition processes.
  • Contract management.
