In-House Tax Manager - UK Tax

Location: Hybrid - once a month in London

Reporting to: Head of Tax

Contract: 6 months FTC

Salary: ~ £80k FTE

A fast-growing, private equity-backed business headquartered in the UK with a global footprint gained through M&A activity. With continued expansion and a strong focus on operational excellence, this business has been building a best-in-class in-house tax function to support commercial objectives and ensure compliance across all tax areas.

Role Overview

The In-House Tax Manager will play a key role in managing the outsourced corporate tax compliance process and overseeing VAT compliance, primarily handled by regional finance teams. Reporting to the Head of Tax, this role will work closely with the international tax team (also based in the UK) and liaise with regional finance teams to ensure effective tax governance and operational execution.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage outsourced UK and some international corporate tax compliance providers, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
  2. Review corporate tax computations and returns prepared externally, coordinating internal approvals.
  3. Oversee VAT compliance handled by finance teams in the UK and internationally; advise on VAT queries and ensure accuracy.
  4. Coordinate tax audit responses and support statutory audit processes involving tax disclosures.
  5. Collaborate with regional finance teams to support VAT compliance, tax reporting, and respond to tax-related queries.
  6. Act as a bridge between finance teams and tax advisors for effective communication of tax matters.
  7. Work closely with the international tax team on cross-border issues, transfer pricing, and intercompany arrangements.
  8. Support the Head of Tax in developing and maintaining tax policies and controls.
  9. Maintain accurate tax documentation and assist in preparing tax provisions for financial statements.
  10. Monitor and assess tax risks, implementing mitigation strategies.
  11. Provide input on UK tax developments, supporting business initiatives with proactive advice.
  12. Support transaction-related work, including due diligence, integration, and structuring from a UK tax perspective.
  13. Identify and implement improvements in tax processes and workflows.
  14. Support initiatives to standardise tax processes across regions and improve data quality and automation.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Professionally qualified (CTA, ACA, or equivalent).
  • Strong background in UK corporate tax; experience managing outsourced compliance.
  • Working knowledge of UK VAT and international tax concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate across finance and tax teams globally.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing tax provisions for financial reporting.
  • Self-starter with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience in a private equity-backed or multinational business.
  • Exposure to tax matters in fast-growth or acquisitive environments.
  • Understanding of transfer pricing documentation and intercompany arrangements.
