A leading research institution is seeking a Pleural Research Biobank and Lab Assistant to ensure the smooth running of the Pleural Biobank. This full-time role involves overseeing sample collection and processing, alongside learning laboratory methods for clinical research. Ideal candidates will have a biological degree and relevant lab skills, with a focus on the biology of Pleural disease.

Qualifications

  • Basic molecular lab skills and experience handling tissue samples.
  • Some experience of biomedical research desired.
  • Knowledge of Human Tissue Act, Data Protection Act, Good Clinical Practice, and Health and Safety at Work Act is desirable.

Responsibilities

We are seeking

a Pleural Research Biobank and Lab Assistant, to be based at the Oxford Pleural Translational Lab and Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit. This is a key role in ensuring the oversight and smooth running of the Pleural Biobank. You will oversee the lifecycle of sample collection including receipt, processing, tracking and use of samples being collected as part of the Pleural Biobank, and for various other specific research studies. You will also be trained and learn various laboratory methods used to analyse and profile clinical samples being used in translational research at Oxford Pleural Translational Lab, whose focus is understanding the underlying biology of Pleural disease (infection and cancer). You will hold a first degree in a biological subject and have basic molecular lab skills and experience of handling tissue samples. You will need excellent communication skills, attention to detail and a willingness to work flexibly, including transporting samples between local hospital and University sites. Some experience of biomedical research and a knowledge of Human Tissue Act and HTA licencing, Data Protection Act, Good Clinical Practice and Health and Safety at Work Act would be desirable. The post is full time (37.5 hours) and fixed-term for up to 1 year in the first instance.
