About our visitor attraction centre

Our Visitor Attraction site at Lisvane and Llanishen opened in 2023, in the North of Cardiff, and is open all year round! This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to join Welsh Water. The site boasts a state-of-the-art Visitor Attraction building with a 150-cover restaurant, a balcony with views over both reservoirs, group and cubicle changing rooms, land and water-based activities, an education learning space, bird hides & islands, meeting rooms, and a Grab & Go.

Summary

Joining our team as a weekend daytime Chef at Lisvane and Llanishen Visitor Centre will give you the opportunity to develop important skills, such as:

  1. Communication skills by listening to other team members and management
  2. Building a commercial awareness and the experience of working in a commercial environment
  3. Working with regulations such as health and safety and licensing laws, and making sure that colleagues understand them

What you’ll be responsible for

We appreciate that working in the kitchen can be tough. Our team still has an amazing time and is at the top of their game because the food they prepare, cook, and serve creates memorable experiences for our guests, leaving them wanting more.

The fun in our kitchen comes from teamwork, with everyone working together to achieve outstanding results. A positive outlook, a great attitude, and a willingness to work hard as part of your team, while having fun along the way, is all we're asking of you! Even though we're not looking for A la Carte chefs, we are looking to develop a team of colleagues who share a passion for all things food, with some basic kitchen experience. Full training is available for the right candidates.

Duties:
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals, managing and organizing team members to deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Menu creation and design to maximize gross margin.
  • Supervise and identify training needs of colleagues to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Ensure the safety of all persons on site.
  • Order all kitchen and resale supplies from designated suppliers.
  • Maintain all kitchen HACCP records at all times and to the required standard.
  • Develop and improve the customer experience offering.
  • Maintain food hygiene standards, and the tidiness of the kitchen, in accordance with Welsh Water's food safety procedures.
  • Engage with customers as an ambassador of Welsh Water.

About you

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Commercial catering and kitchen supervisory experience

Starting ASAP. Zero hours contract, but there will be work available throughout school holidays, including winter.

This role is for weekend day shifts, starting in the morning and finishing late afternoon. Between 8-16 hours per week.
