Nuclear Core Physics Opportunities - Full time Derby, Raynesway

A range of exciting Reactor Physics opportunities are available within Reactor Engineering at Rolls-Royce Submarines, for physicists at all stages of their career.

Role Responsibilities
  1. Designing and substantiating reactor cores using deterministic and stochastic methods.
  2. Supporting the manufacture of reactor cores.
  3. Designing experiments and performing measurements in our zero-energy critical benchmarking facility.
  4. Supporting onboard tests and trials for the UK submarine fleet.
  5. Collaborating with industry partners, civil nuclear, and academia to share knowledge and skills.
  6. Researching, developing, and applying new improvements across reactor physics, including validation and operational maximization.
Candidate Requirements

We seek candidates with:

  • A relevant degree (undergraduate, master's, or PhD) in engineering, physics, or related scientific fields.
  • Experience in reactor physics or the wider nuclear industry.
  • An analytical mindset, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to learn.
