About Canterbury Cathedral
Canterbury Cathedral is the cathedral of the archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Located in Canterbury, Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site.
As part of the Finance Team but embedded in the Estates and Finance Department, this post will provide the finance support to the Estates and Fabric Department, including raising invoices, credit control, purchase ledger and timesheet input and ensuring strong internal financial control is maintained in all areas.
• Raising and issuing invoices for estate tenants and departmental services.
• To exercise appropriate credit control across the Estates and Finance Customers in accordance with credit control policies and procedures.
• Assisting in the maintaining the estate departments asset register and keeping tenancy details up to date, contact details, rent due and statutory compliance information.
• To issue purchase orders as requested ensuring proper authorisation.
• To match orders and delivery notes to purchase invoices, code and input invoices to the purchase ledger ensuring accurate recording of job codes and VAT recovery rates.
• Create new job codes liaising with others in the Finance department as required.
• In consultation with the Head of Estates and Fabric and departmental managers to receive, check and input timesheets to the job costing system. Assist is allocation of job codes where necessary.
• To maintain an efficient and accurate filing system for paper and electronic finance records for the Estates and Fabric Department.
• To assist with budget management of the Finance and Estates Department, supporting managers to understand their budgets and management accounts and input to the regular forecasts for the organisation.
• To contribute to the implementation of a new finance system for the Cathedral.
• To provide cover in the Finance Department during periods of holiday and sickness, for purchase ledger and sales ledger functions.
• As an employee of the Dean and Chapter to fully endorse, understand and exercise the roles and responsibilities contained within the Dean and Chapters Health and Safety policy which is set out in the Staff Handbook and undergo any training necessary.
• To maintain confidentiality at all times.
• The post holder may be required to undertake any other reasonable task requested by the line manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
• The personal specification below indicates the qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills required to undertake the role effectively.
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent.
• Competent book-keeper with experience in running both purchase and sales ledger processes and a general understanding of accounts and budgeting, preferably in a construction or property management environment.
• General understanding of job costing and VAT.
• Good organisational skills.
• Excellent IT skills, especially Microsoft outlook, Word and Excel.
• Understanding of and sympathy with the aims and purposes of the Cathedral, its mission and ministry.
• AAT qualification or similar.
• Knowledge and experience of records management.
