Summary:

The Apprentice - Patient Access - Emergency Department role is the entry-level position for Patient Access, responsible for scheduling, pre-registering, registering, and admitting patients to the hospital. The role serves as the first contact for many patients and requires a caring and professional attitude towards all patients and visitors. Responsibilities include determining insurance coverage and eligibility, performing pre-authorization procedures, maintaining patient care unit control for all bedded units, providing financial counseling and assistance, establishing and monitoring patient accounts before, during, and up to 5 days post-discharge. The role also involves ensuring the accuracy of patient identification and demographic and financial information used for billing, informing patients of financial responsibilities, and collecting payments and co-payments based on estimates.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Previous clerical healthcare and customer service experience preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements: N/A
