Stantec has a reputable and well-established Transport Planning team spread across the UK and we are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Principal / Associate Transport Planner to join us, working in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.
Our team is fortunate to work with excellent clients on some of the UK’s most exciting transport projects. Our client-focused and results-driven approach has enhanced our reputation as one of the leading transport planning consultancies in the UK. The team has grown significantly in recent years, including over 30 Transport Planners based in Scotland, and we are now looking to further strengthen and grow our offering.
As a Principal / Associate Transport Planner, you will take on the project lead role on the development and delivery of a range of high-profile sustainable transport projects, including major scheme appraisals, business cases, local and regional strategies, and monitoring & evaluation studies. You will deal directly with clients at all levels.
You will communicate and work collaboratively with project teams to provide high-quality deliverables to Stantec’s clients and ensure that all documentation adheres to client and company standards and expectations.
You will also work with the leadership team to support business development in areas of sustainable transport planning, including preparing proposals and tender submissions.
Another key part of your role will be to mentor, guide, manage and provide technical advice to junior employees.

About You
You will be highly numerate with good report writing skills. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to advise both internal and external clients and stakeholders. You will have experience of leading the management and delivery of projects in areas such as, transport planning, transport appraisal, transport business cases and stakeholder engagement and consultation to develop a strong evidence base to inform and support transport investment decisions. You will have experience across a range of modes, including public transport and active travel.
You will have a broad understanding of current transportation trends and challenges in Scotland. You will have practical experience of undertaking transport appraisals for local authorities and / or Regional Transport Partnerships in Scotland and be familiar with Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG).
You will have experience of working with leaders across a range of disciplines to manage and deliver projects and develop the business. You will have the ability to work effectively individually or as part of a project team.
You will ideally have some experience managing or mentoring junior staff.
You will likely be a Chartered Transport Planning Professional or be working towards this qualification – and we will support you in gaining the qualification if you don’t have it.
