Our Client, a global leader in the defence industry, has an exciting opportunity for a Lead FPGA Design Engineer / Manager.

Role Overview:

The Lead FPGA Engineer would be responsible for the success of the engineering activities within an Integrated FPGA Product Team or one of the products within an FPGA Product Line.

Responsibilities:
  1. The Lead FPGA Engineer is responsible for defining and leading the Work Packages for the team members on a day-to-day basis, in consultation with the Project Engineering Manager.
  2. Provide your team with clear expectations of engineering outcomes, ensure operations align with Policies & Procedures, and foster continuous improvement.
Specific responsibilities:
  • Lead the engineering aspects of the FPGA Project or Product Line.
  • Manage an FPGA Engineering Team to deliver project outcomes.
  • Ensure outcomes are clearly defined and well communicated.
  • Plan, cost, and schedule FPGA Engineering activities in coordination with Project Planning and Management.
  • Maintain a well-documented Engineering Plan and monitor its adherence.
  • Report on progress and ensure the team follows an effective Life Cycle Management Process, leading Design Reviews.
  • Oversee project completion ensuring quality, cost, and schedule adherence.
  • Maintain communication with the Project Engineering Manager and PM, reporting status and risks.
  • Collaborate with FPGA & System Design Authorities on technical progress and risks.
  • Support engineering reviews, team briefs, and technical troubleshooting.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Mandatory:

  • Proven FPGA engineering management experience and project delivery.
  • Engineering or scientific Degree qualification (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead FPGA teams.
  • Ability to manage complex situations with sound judgment.
  • Experience across the full FPGA lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with FPGA device families and verification methodologies.
  • Expertise in FPGA development using VHDL or Verilog.
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics FPGA tools, Xilinx / Intel / Microsemi design flows, and third-party synthesis tools.
  • Experience in specifying timing and area constraints.
  • Ability to analyze system/hardware requirements and derive FPGA requirements.
  • Experience with FPGA verification, requirements management, debugging, and version control.
  • Knowledge of high-speed serial protocols.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Linux and scripting experience.
  • Experience with agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency in technical reporting and documentation.

Desirable:

  • Development of real-time, embedded, safety-critical FPGA, preferably per RTCA/DO-254 DAL A/B.
  • Experience in Electronic Warfare or RF Systems.
  • Defense or Aerospace industry experience.
  • Development and certification of airborne equipment.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM for verification.
  • Knowledge of embedded processor cores (e.g., ARM) in FPGA designs.
Qualifications:
  • Honours degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering or another STEM subject.
  • Current valid SC clearance is advantageous.
