We are currently seeking a District Youth and Community Worker (in training) to support the commissioning and development of programmes and imaginative activities within the West Essex community, encouraging active participation of young people in developing their ideas and personal skills.

The Role:

You will take ownership of defined work areas, work flexibly across teams, plan and deliver youth activities, collaborate with colleagues and partners, and develop new approaches to improve outcomes for young people and communities. You will be proactive, energetic, and persistent in seeing initiatives through.

The District Youth and Community Worker will:

  • Work with young people and communities to develop skills and capacity for youth provision.
  • Supervise Youth and Community Workers within a hub area.
  • Establish relationships with young people and communities.
  • Ensure the voice of young people influences youth work provision.
  • Encourage participation in educational and challenging activities.
  • Provide information and support to help young people develop confidence and skills.

About You:

You will:

  • Have the ability to partner and influence across sectors to support outcomes for young people.
  • Have experience working with young people, voluntary experience is acceptable.
  • Build relationships and relate well to young people.
  • Motivate and facilitate learning for young people.
  • Challenge prejudice and ignorance.
  • Develop work with young people to achieve outcomes.
  • Work well in a team.
  • Be flexible to meet young people's needs.

Essential Requirements:

  • Hold or be working towards a JNC Level 3 qualification in Youth Work; willing to undertake a Level 6 qualification.
  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, with good IT skills.
  • Right to work and study in England.
  • Residency in the UK or EEA for three years before starting.
  • Right to live, work, and study in the UK; apprenticeships are not covered by student visas.
  • Mobility across operational areas; driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.

  • Manage the organisation with high standards and in line with ECC’s values.
  • Manage and develop staff, including training, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Think creatively, challenge norms, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks, including health and safety.
