The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design and analysis of structural and non-structural components - from their initial concept through to final production. You'll work with other team members supporting the development of complex multi material assemblies, including the design and analysis of bolted and bonded joints.

Day-to-day, you’ll combine subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve problems; breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the Engineering and Project Management community to undertake the work within the agreed quality, timescale and budget.
  • Use your skills and knowledge to develop the capabilities in the areas you are working in; mentor others to improve the knowledge of your areas of expertise within the wider engineering and technical communities.
  • Actively participate and work with other functions (e.g. Safety Engineering) to deliver the technical programme of work.
  • Give technical presentations and talk knowledgably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings.
  • Ensure projects you are responsible for are conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices and providing potential options to reduce the risk so that it is as low as responsibly practicable.
  • Ensure that Governance is applied consistently across the projects where you are involved; act as a peer reviewer for other projects where suitable.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer:

If you have experience with at least one of the following, you will be considered for this role:

  • Finite Element Analysis of structures and systems
  • Experience of composite materials, design and manufacturing
  • Experience of design and analysis of composite structures
  • Experience of analytical analysis of composite structures and failure
  • Knowledge of different composite manufacturing techniques
  • Proficient in FEA software ideally Abaqus
  • Proficient in CAD software

Essential qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer:

This role is 37 Hours per week based at Haslar. Hybrid Working patterns are available.

Our facilities at the Haslar Marine Technology Park are state-of-the-art, including our ocean basin rotating arm, and marine towing tank, offering an unparalleled environment for testing and refining designs. Our marine technology offers our global customers a service to deliver constrained hydrodynamic model tests of surface ships, submarines, offshore structures, and renewable energy devices.
