About the Role:

This is a great opportunity to join a world-leading organisation and gain software development experience as part of our exciting Tree of Life programme. As an Apprentice Software Developer, this role is ideal if you are interested in starting a career in Software Development.

You will be responsible for:

• Supporting the activities of the Tree of Life Enabling Platforms team by developing software to support our scientists
• Collaborating with various teams to support and resolve service requests promptly

About You:

You should be eager to learn the latest software development skills, both on the job and through your course. You should enjoy working in a team and contributing to team activities.

About the apprenticeship:

You will work towards achieving a Level 6 Digitech apprenticeship (4 years) through Multiverse, including:

• Level 4 Software Engineering course (18 months)
• Level 5-6 Advanced Software Engineering course (24 months)

One day per week is allocated for learning, with the rest of the time spent on the job. The start is planned for Autumn 2025. More details at Multiverse Software Engineering Courses.

Essential Skills:

• Level 2 English and Maths, 112 UCAS points with at least Grade B in a STEM A-level (or equivalent)
• No prior experience necessary, but willingness to learn and work hard to attain the Level 6 qualification
• Quick learner with enthusiasm for diverse technologies
• Interest in Python and Javascript
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, including supporting non-technical staff
• Problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good documentation and organizational skills
• Teamwork experience (e.g., sports, school projects, DofE)

Please note: Applicants with a degree or Level 4 qualification in IT/Computer Science may not be eligible.

Other Information:

• Full-time: 37 hours/week
• Salary: £24,242 per annum
• Contract: 4-year fixed term
• Expected End Date: 31/08/2029
