Selected candidate will be placed at title of Project Engineer Sr, Project Engineer Sr Lead, or Project Engineer Sr Staff based on education, experience, and demonstrated success at the Engineer level.

This is an onsite role that will be filled in Jackson, MS. Those outside this area will need to relocate. Relocation Assistance is available for this posting.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

As a key member of the Project Management team, the Project Engineer is responsible for managing and coordinating all technical aspects of new power generation capital projects. This role ensures engineering alignment with corporate goals and that all project elements are complete, accurate, and constructible.

The Project Engineer oversees contractor engineering performance, coordinates all interfaces between contractors and owners, and ensures projects adhere to drawings, specifications, quality, and performance standards. The position involves coordinating cross-functional teams and building relationships with stakeholders, including contractors. The Project Engineer works closely with the Project Manager and Project Controls Specialist to ensure process compliance.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Promote safe behavior and adherence to safety rules on the project.
  2. Identify engineered safety controls and hazards during design; coach safe practices in the field.
  3. Support and lead cross-functional teams from development through project closeout, including development of EPC contracts, permitting, engineering, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  4. Ensure documentation of engineering and construction quality for audits.
  5. Support the Owner team in writing official Records of Decision for major project decisions.
  6. Act as Contract Manager for engineering and construction contracts outside of EPC, including Owner’s Engineer.
  7. Review engineering designs for compliance with contracts, permits, codes, and standards, supporting strategic and operational goals.
  8. Coordinate with the Project Manager to follow the Project Delivery System and produce related deliverables.
  9. Participate in contractor/vendor selection, assessing experience, competencies, and capabilities.
  10. Lead technical open book engineering processes, applying value engineering to ensure competitiveness.
  11. Assist contractors and vendors during design and construction to resolve technical issues.
  12. Ensure all engineering service providers are licensed in the project state.
  13. Ensure project compliance with NERC and Security Standards.
  14. Store all project documents in the designated repository at closeout.
  15. Support and lead change management processes for design changes.
  16. Participate in equipment inspections as agreed with the contractor.
  17. Support Owner review and signoff of System Turnover packages from Construction to Startup and from EPC to Owner.
  18. Support commissioning and ensure completion of performance, reliability, and emissions testing as per contract.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor of Science in Instrument and Controls or Electrical Engineering; advanced degree preferred.

Experience: 6+ years for Project Engineer Sr, 10+ years for Sr Lead, 12+ years for Sr Staff, with relevant experience in engineering design, construction, or operations, especially in power generation systems. Certifications like PE or PMP are advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong technical writing and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office 360, leadership skills, expert knowledge in engineering fundamentals, practical application of engineering sciences in power generation, contract management experience, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving skills.

Certificates/Licenses: Desired: Professional Engineer license and PMP certification.
